“Interesting.” Nix approaches the mushroom man cautiously, noting the deflation of the aggression in Ero, Theodore and Talison. Unsure if it was an act of the creature or not, she errs on the side of caution but maintains an airy smile. “Hello.” she quickly says this three times, moving deftly and confidently between common, gnomish and dwarvish. The short man looks up at her, his eyes sparkling slightly and the rainbow cast across his eyes by Ero’s blue light shifting oddly as his head turns.
Failing to control his tone, Ero struggles to keep his mind on tactics while his face collapses into a smile. “Hello there!” Jila and Korik exchange looks, the pair sharing their amusement. The creature raises its arm as if to shake hands with Ero.
Turning back to Nix, he nods and then wanders by her, beckoning to the group to follow. Leading everyone over hills and into valleys, around stalagmites and passing by many more broken green crystal; as more minutes go by, the shards get larger and larger until the floor appears littered with broken pieces the size of a slingstone.
After fifteen minutes of walking, around a mile or so of distance, the small man stops at the crest of a deep crater. Stalagmites encircle the crater, creating a crown-like nest of stone fingers reaching up and around the wide pit. The area fills with an emerald light that dwarfs the lights of Simon, Theodore and Ero, and yet doesn’t hurt anyone’s eyes at all. The light is coming from a massive crystal monolith, at least fifty feet tall, the tip of which only just manages to reach the top of the pit. The pit is deep, but the slope down is staggered and looks easy enough to climb up and down without ropes. The stone in the pit is very dry and dusty, with the stones around it very moist. Cave moss grows thickly around the stalgmites, and small insects buzz around in the cave nearby.
At the base of the monolith gather around two dozen of these mushroom people, all around the same size save for one. They appear to be moving as if talking to each other, but the only sound that can be heard is the creaky stretch of their skin as they move. The smaller one is crawling out of the base of the monolith, from a flat facet that ripples like jelly as he pulls himself through. He is accompanied by another, taller one, about the same size as the man that brought you here. In the arms of the smaller one is a small bundle of grey fur, and the creatures all move to gather around in what looks to be a caring fashion.
Adrik and Lorawyn both feel a strong pull towards this monolithic crystal; there is no doubt in their minds that this is the druidic artefact. Jila pushes gently to the front of the group. “It… It’s here!” Simon rests upon his staff, leaning into it as he smiles and looks around at everyone. “This is phenomenal!”
Bennet looks around, and after taking everything in, asks Simon: “Is this it? Where’s the treasure? Wasn’t there supposed to be treasure?”
What do you do?
