Citadel Delve pt. 31

Dark Risings

While descending down the tunnel the Meenlocks rushed out of, towards the purple glowing mushrooms 200 feet away where the tunnel levels off, Simon's light flickers out. The group stops moving, looking back at the robed and bearded man shyly holding his staff before him. As Simon waves his hand again in front of the head of the staff, it begins to glow again, filling the tunnel with a bright light. The grey stone begins to moisten as the party descends, thicker tufts of harmless green moss growing hither and tither.

Korik glances around unfocused, looking for any obvious signs of traps but not finding any. After scant few moments, conversation erupts again, mostly centred around Ero and his manifestation here. Nix and Jila push forward at the head of the party, peering into the dark ahead of the bright light for signs unfriendly. A subtle standing of hairs on the necks of those with them first warns them.

Upon reaching halfway down the tunnel, a blast of air whooshes up and tries to push the party down, the smooth floors making it hard to steady themselves. The smell of ozone mixed with stale bread accompanies this wind, and the floor ahead at the base of the tunnel begins to bubble. A dark liquid stretches like melting rubber from a crack in between stones, reaching up with a tendril and striking the floor hard, almost pulling itself along. Another tendril snaps into the air and slaps down hard, followed by more. These black and putrid-smelling tendrils drag themselves away from the central point they erupted from, ripping open another portal similar to the one that led to the Feyrealm previously encountered. A long, thin, dark arm rises out of the portal fungus and slams down onto the hard stone below, a pale hand spreading it's fingers out.

Behind the group, sliding out from the ceiling portal in the previous room, appear two more Meenlock creatures. After striking the ground beneath them as they enter this world, they lurk at the top of the tunnel and seem to be waiting for something… Before being able to focus on them, the group's attentions seem drawn to the strange shape pushing up out of the portal at the bottom of the tunnel: Wudmirk's half-transformed head, separated from his body, is held in the talon-like grip of another pale, wiry hand with rounded knuckles. The sight of this sends a chill along everyone's spine.
